Box Score 2 BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Apr. 5, 2014) - On Saturday afternoon, the Molloy College softball team swept the University of Bridgeport to remain undefeated in East Coast Conference action by final scores of 11-2 (5 innings) and 10-4. With the wins, the Lions improved to 11-9 overall and 7-0 in ECC play. Following the defeats, the Purple Knights slipped to 10-17 on the year and 5-6 in conference action.
Game 1: Molloy 11, Bridgeport 2 (5 innings)In the opening game, all of the scoring was done in the fourth inning. In the top half, Molloy plated 11 runs, which started with a three-run double from senior
Dayna White (East Islip, N.Y.). Junior
Brenda Lee (Corona, Calif.) had a two-run double, while sophomore
Tracey Balinskas (Edison, N.J.) blasted a three-run homer to left field. The scoring concluded for the Lions when freshman
Erin Clinton (Long Beach, Calif.) singled to center field, allowing White to touch home plate.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Purple Knights scored twice when Sydney Phillips smacked a two-run homer to left field. That was all Bridgeport could muster against Molloy starting pitcher Balinskas. The game ended after five innings due to the run-rule.
Balinskas surrendered two runs on four hits in five innings. She struck out four. At the dish, Lee went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs, while White notched a 2-for-3 performance with two runs scored and three RBIs.
Game 2: Molloy 10, Bridgeport 4 Sophomore
Milan Botte (San Diego, Calif.) started the second contest's scoring right off the bat, as she deposited a solo shot over the right field fence in the first inning. In the third frame, junior
Brianne Catalano (Franklin Square, N.Y.) scored on a passed ball, before the Lions scored three runs in the fourth. Clinton reached on an error, which brought home Balinskas. Then senior
Nicolette Sinagra (Brooklyn, N.Y.) plated a pair with a single to left. After the top of the fourth, Molloy led, 5-0.
Bridgeport grabbed one of those runs back in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double. In the Molloy fifth, the Lions continued their offensive frenzy when Balinskas doubled in Botte, which was followed by Catalano scoring Balinskas via an RBI single. Up 7-2 in the sixth, Molloy would score its final three runs of the game. Balinskas sent a two-run homer to left field, while senior
Lauren Alexander (Huntington, N.Y.) recorded an RBI single.
The Purple Knights scored a run in the sixth and in the seventh, but that was all they could do. Molloy secured the win in Game 2, 10-4.
In the circle, freshman
Chelsea Hawks (Wading River, N.Y.) went six innings, surrendering three runs on nine hits, while whiffing four batters. In the batter's box, Balinskas went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBIs, while Botte was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI.
