Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Apr. 26, 2014) - On Saturday, the Molloy College women's lacrosse team had its final tune-up before next week's East Coast Conference Postseason Tournament Semifinal, and the Lions passed with flying colors defeating Queens College, 15-2. With the victory, the Lions are now 9-6 overall and 5-3 in the ECC to finish the regular season as the fourth seed in the ECC playoff picture. Following the loss, the Knights slipped to 2-11 on the season and 2-6 in the conference.
Despite Queens scoring the first goal of the game, the Lions amassed a 5-1 lead shortly after. From 15:36 left in the first half when the Knights scored their first goal, the Lions held Queens scoreless until 11:16 remaining in the second period -- a 34-minute shutout span. In that span, the Lions were also having themselves a scoring frenzy as Molloy found the back of the cage 13 times. Molloy added another two in the final six minutes of the game to wrap up its 2014 regular season on a high note.
It was fitting that Senior Day was today for the Lions because their three seniors had terrific performances.
Samantha Arlotta (Garden City Park, N.Y.) scored a hat trick, while
Candice Noakes (Levittown, N.Y.) scored a goal and dished out four assists. Rounding out the senior class,
Jessica Teves (Merrick, N.Y.) netted four goals. Rookie
Taylor Corcoran (Holbrook, N.Y.) scored twice, while sophomore
Ryan Meyer (East Meadow, N.Y.) recorded three tallies for a hat trick.
In the cage, sophomore
Caroline Winters (Baldwin, N.Y.) made 10 saves in the win.
Head Coach
Tom Campolettano and the Lions will next square off against against not only the top-seeded team in the ECC Championship Tournament, but also the number-one-ranked team in the country, LIU Post (16-0, 7-0 ECC). Their ECC semifinal game will be played on Thursday, May 1 at LIU Post in Brookville, N.Y. The start time is yet to be determined.
