Men's Lacrosse Closes Out Season With 20-12 Victory Over UDC

Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. (Apr. 27, 2014) - On Sunday afternoon, the Molloy College men's lacrosse squad concluded its 2014 season down in our nation's capital with a 20-12 victory over East Coast Conference-opponent the University of D.C. at Georgetown Field. Junior attackmen Tom Engelhardt (Bethpage, N.Y.) and Joe Leonard (Hicksville, N.Y.) accounted for nine of the team's 20 goals. The Lions finish their campaign with an overall ledger of 8-6 and a slate of 4-4 in the league. Following the loss, the Firebirds slipped to 3-8 (2-6 ECC). With a 4-4 ECC record, the Lions fell just short of qualifying for the ECC Postseason Tournament.

UDC grabbed a 3-0 lead to start the game, before Molloy scored two of its own in the first quarter. The game remained close throughout the first half as when the halftime intermission rolled around, the Lions held a 9-7 lead.

As the third period began, the Firebirds scored twice to knot the score at 9-all. The two clubs traded a goal apiece to change the score to 10-10, before the Lions reeled off six straight goals to close out the third quarter. In the fourth stanza, the Lions found the back of the cage four times, while the Firebirds did twice. As the final horn sounded, the Lions had themselves a 20-12 triumph.

Engelhardt led the game with five goals, to go along with one assist, while Leonard scored four times and added three assists. Freshmen Connor Slane (North Babylon, N.Y.) and Jon Camposa (Syosset, N.Y.) scored twice each, while sophomore Peter Clark (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) netted three tallies. In the cage, senior John Grebe (Farmingville, N.Y.) made six saves.
