Men's Lacrosse Blasts Dominican in Home Finale, 12-4

Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Apr. 23, 2014) - On Wednesday evening, the Molloy College men's lacrosse team treated the home crowd to a 12-4 East Coast Conference victory over Dominican College in the team's final home game of the 2014 season. With the win, the Lions improved to 7-6 overall and 3-4 in the league, while the Chargers fell to 1-12 on the season and 0-7 in the ECC.

Molloy scored the first two goals of the game when juniors Joe Leonard (Hicksville, N.Y.) and Tom Engelhardt (Bethpage, N.Y.) started the scoring frenzy in the opening three minutes. Dominican scored with 8:27 left in the first quarter to cut its deficit to 2-1. Molloy then proceeded to reel off five straight goals that extended into the second period. Leonard scored two of those five tallies. The two teams traded a goal apiece and headed into the intermission with the score in favor of Molloy, 8-2.

Dominican would only score one more time -- in the fourth quarter -- as Molloy found the back of the cage five times in the second half. The Lions went on to easily secure the 12-4 win.

Leonard had four goals and one assist, while Engelhardt had a hat trick. Sophomore Austin Valenti (Baldwin, N.Y.), freshman Connor Slane (North Babylon, N.Y.), junior Steve Marrandino (Lynbrook, N.Y.), sophomore Peter Clark (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and sophomore Kevin Teresky (South Huntington, N.Y.) scored the other five goals for the Lions. In the cage, senior John Grebe (Farmingville, N.Y.) made six saves through the first 36 minutes of the game, while juniors Dan McElhinney (Franklin Square, N.Y.) and Alec Volpe (Glen Head, N.Y.) finished out the game.

Head Coach Eric Petrullo and the Lions return to action for their 2014 season finale on Sunday, Apr. 27 when they play at the University of D.C. beginning at 2 p.m.
