(Apr. 22, 2014) - On Tuesday afternoon, the Molloy College softball team swept an East Coast Conference-doubleheader versus the University of Bridgeport at Bob Klein Field in Rockville Centre, N.Y. to improve its record to 23-18 overall and 15-7 in the league. The Purple Knights slipped to 18-26 on the season and 11-15 in the conference. Prior to Game 1, the Lions' softball program honored its three graduating seniors in a special on-field presentation with family members and friends --

Lauren Alexander (Huntington, N.Y.) and
Nicolette Sinagra (Brooklyn, N.Y.).
Game 1: Molloy 10, Bridgeport 1 (5 innings) Starting off Senior Day on the right foot, White blasted a three-run homer to left center to give Molloy a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning. The only run that Bridgeport scored was in the fourth inning when Ashley Hessler reached via an error, allowing Kelsey Spaziani to touch home plate and change the Purple Knights' deficit to 3-1. The Lions wound up scoring five times in the fourth inning. Junior
Brenda Lee (Corona, Calif.) started the inning's offense with a two-run single, which was followed by a two-run single by sophomore
Tracey Balinskas (Edison, N.J.). White rounded out the scoring with an RBI single, bringing home Balinskas.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Lions run-ruled the Purple Knights when Sinagra recorded a two-run single, bringing in Molloy's ninth and 10th runs of the game.

Chelsea Hawks (Wading River, N.Y.) threw a complete-game, one-hitter. The lone run she gave up was unearned as she lowered her season's ERA to 3.58. She struck out seven.
Game 2: Molloy 3, Bridgeport 2 (8 innings)Bridgeport held a 2-0 lead from the second inning through the sixth. The Purple Knights found home plate on an RBI single and a throwing error. The Lions rallied to tie the game and send it into extra innings when freshman
Erin Clinton (Long Beach, Calif.) notched a sacrifice fly and Alexander smacked an RBI single up the middle. In the bottom of the eighth, with runners on first and second, Alexander recorded an infield single to the shortstop. On that hit, White, who was the runner on second, was hustling the whole way and scored the game-winning run.
In the circle, Balinskas went eight innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits. She struck out five. Her season's ERA was decreased to 3.49.

Susan Cassidy-Lyke and the Lions return to the field tomorrow when they travel to New Jersey to take on Caldwell College. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
