Box Score 2 ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Apr. 21, 2014) - On Monday, the LIU Post pitching staff wasn't able to contain Molloy College senior outfielder
Dayna White (East Islip, N.Y.) as she went 6-for-8 and drove in seven runs in the East Coast Conference doubleheader. However, some of her teammates struggled versus the Pioneers, as did the Lions' hurlers, as Molloy dropped both games, 9-6 and 10-6. The Lions are now 21-18 overall and 13-7 in the ECC, while the No. 18 Pioneers improved to 35-5 on the year and 21-1 in the conference.
Game 1: LIU Post 9, Molloy 6In the first inning, White drove in her first two runs of the day as she smacked a single to right field, plating junior
Brenda Lee (Corona, Calif.) and sophomore
Tracey Balinskas (Edison, N.J.). The lead didn't last long as the Pioneers scored five times in the third frame. Down 5-2 in the bottom of the third, Molloy sophomore
Milan Botte (San Diego, Calif.) ripped a single up the middle to bring in a pair of teammates, cutting the Lions' deficit to one.
The fourth and sixth innings proved to be big ones for the Pioneers as they recorded four runs to take a 9-4 advantage. Molloy attempted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh as freshman
Erin Clinton (Long Beach, Calif.) reached on an error by Nicole Hagenah, which allowed Lee and Balinskas to score. Those two runs would be the only ones Molloy scored, however, as LIU Post took game one, 9-6.
Game 2: LIU Post 10, Molloy 6 The Pioneers picked up immediately where they left off in Game 1 when in the top of the first, they scored four runs via a double, single and homer. Grabbing three of those four runs back in the bottom half of the inning on one pitch was White, who crushed a three-run homer to center field. On the homer, Lee and Balinskas scored.
LIU Post picked up five runs in the third inning, with the last four coming by way of a grand slam, as the Pioneers took a 9-3 lead. Molloy chipped away as in the third, fourth and fifth, as the Lions plated three runs via RBI singles -- two from White and one from senior
Nicolette Sinagra (Brooklyn, N.Y.). With a solo shot in the top of the seventh, and a clean bottom of the seventh from its pitcher, LIU Post won game two, 10-6.
