Box Score UNIONDALE, N.Y. (Apr. 21, 2014) - The Molloy College Lions' baseball team entered the bottom of the ninth trailing 7-1 to the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights, but were able to rally to score five runs before losing 7-6. The Lions fall to 14-17 overall and 7-9 in East Coast Conference play, while Bridgeport improves to 14-20-1 and 8-12 in league play.
The first three innings of the game were scoreless until the top of the fourth when Bridgeport scored three times. Leadoff hitter Jesse Solar highlighted the action with an RBI double that made it 3-0. Solar finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs.
Molloy junior starter
Alex Brosnan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) got through five innings, allowing three runs on five hits while notching three strikeouts. In the top of the sixth, with senior reliever
Anthony Eichhorn (Sayville, N.Y.) in the game, the Purple Knights added two additional runs to make it 5-0.
In the bottom of the sixth, Molloy scored for the first time. With freshman right fielder
Anthony Alberghina (Staten Island, N.Y.) standing at second base, freshman third basemen
Kevin Podell (Wantagh, N.Y.) sent a seeing-eye single into center field, scoring Alberghina to change the score to 5-1.
Bridgeport would get another run off of Eichhorn in the seventh inning. Then in the top of the ninth, third basemen Casey McCone sent an RBI double into the right-centerfield gap to make it 7-1. McCone was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, a walk and a run scored on the afternoon.
The bottom of the ninth was when the game turned wild. Bridgeport began the inning with right-handed reliever Clayton Morris, who allowed four runs on three hits and walked a batter. Freshman second baseman
Brian Murphy (Elmont, N.Y.) had an RBI single as part of the rally.
Then left-handed reliever Adam Olszyk came in to face one batter, walking senior centerfielder
Carlos Guzman (Bloomingburg, N.Y.) to allow another run. Righty Sal Lovaglio came in next, threw a wild pitch that scored
Kyle Van Duyne (Sayville, N.Y.), and allowed an RBI single to Podell to cut Molloy's deficit to 7-5. Junior left fielder
John Galanoudis (Farmingdale, N.Y.) recorded an RBI groundout to make it 7-6, but his brother, freshman
Anthony Galanoudis (Farmingdale, N.Y.), grounded out to Lovaglio to end the game, falling just one run short.
Sophomore
Matt Castaneda (East Meadow, N.Y.) was strapped with the loss (0-2).

Joe Fucarino and the Lions return to the diamond tomorrow night in Rutherford, New Jersey to take on Felician College. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
