Box Score CALDWELL, N.J. (Apr. 2, 2014) - On Wednesday evening, the Molloy College baseball team fell to Caldwell College, 4-3 in non-conference action in Caldwell, N.J. Scoring three runs in the first three innings of the contest, the Lions led until the bottom of the sixth when the Cougars plated four runs to take the lead and eventual victory. With the win, Caldwell improved to 2-13 overall, while the Lions slipped to 8-11 on the season.
In the opening frame, senior centerfielder
Carlos Guzman (Bloomingburg, N.Y.) scored on a passed ball as junior left fielder
John Galanoudis (Farmingdale, N.Y.) drew a walk. In the very next inning, C. Guzman singled in junior right fielder
Zach Norton (West Chester, Pa.). The Lions' third and final run of the night came in the third inning when J. Galanoudis recorded an RBI groundout, bringing home freshman shortstop
Ronald Bauer (Hicksville, N.Y.).
In that bottom of the sixth inning, the Cougars' Andrew Nunez drove a double to left center, plating two runs. That base knock was followed by an RBI single to tie the game and then a sacrifice bunt scored the go-ahead run.
On the bump, Molloy freshman
Sean Gordon (Levittown, N.Y.) received the nod to start, pitching five innings. He surrendered three runs on five hits, striking out two. Sophomore reliever
Peter Vath (Selden, N.Y.), who was strapped with the loss (0-1), gave up the go-ahead run in one inning of work.
