Softball Splits Non-League Twinbill with Pace

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Apr. 18, 2014) - On Friday, the Molloy College softball team split a non-conference doubleheader versus Pace University. The Lions defeated the Setters in Game 1, 3-1, before slipping in Game 2, 4-3. Molloy's overall record is now 20-15 on the season, while Pace now stands at 15-19.

Game 1: Molloy 3, Pace 1

The Lions grabbed the first two runs of the game when sophomore Tracey Balinskas (Edison, N.J.) cranked a two-run homer to left center in the bottom of the third inning. Senior Nicolette Sinagra (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored on the play. In the sixth, the Setters scored their only run of the contest via an RBI single, cutting their deficit to 2-1. Molloy responded in the bottom half of the inning when senior Dayna White (East Islip, N.Y.) blasted a solo homer to left field to tack on an insurance run.

Freshman starter Chelsea Hawks (Wading River, N.Y.) went all seven innings, allowing one run on six hits. She struck out nine batters.

Game 2: Pace 4, Molloy 3

Balinskas put Molloy on the scoreboard in the first inning when she singled in Sinagra. Four frames later, the Setters took a 2-1 lead off a two-run double. In the following inning, Sinagra came up big as she launched a game-tying solo shot to left centerfield to knot the game at 2-2. However, the Setters would undo that and re-take the lead when they plated two runs in the seventh on a pair of bases-loaded walks. Despite an RBI double from White in the bottom half of the seventh, the Lions were only able to change the score to 4-3 in favor of their opponents. Pace was able to secure the 4-3 win.

Head Coach Susan Cassidy-Lyke and the Lions will travel to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. tomorrow to take on ECC-foe Mercy College beginning at 1 p.m.
