No. 14 Men's Lacrosse Falls in Quadruple-Overtime Thriller to No. 9 NYIT, 13-12

Box Score OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Apr. 12, 2014) - On Saturday, the No. 14 Molloy College men's lacrosse team lost a heartbreaker in quadruple-overtime to No. 9 the New York Institute of Technology, 13-12. The Lions' sophomore midfielder Peter Clark (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) tied the game at 12-12 with 17 seconds to go in regulation, but after three-plus overtime periods, the Bears were able to find the winning goal. With the win, the Bears are now 9-3 overall (6-1 ECC), while the Lions dropped to 6-5 on the season (2-3 ECC).

At halftime, the Lions led, 8-5, as they did throughout the majority of the first half. With 13 minutes left in the third, NYIT scored to cut its deficit to 8-6, but then the Lions scored three unanswered goals to increase their lead to 11-6.

The Bears came out in the fourth quarter strong as they tallied six straight goals to take a one-goal lead, 12-11. With 17 seconds left, Clark found the equalizer to send the two teams to overtime. Four overtime periods would be needed, however, to determine the winner of this contest. With 2:03 left in the fourtime overtime session, the Bears' Tom Hughes found the back of the netting for the NYIT victory.

For the Lions, junior Tom Engelhardt (Bethpage, N.Y.) had a hat trick, while sophomore Kevin Teresky (South Huntington, N.Y.), junior Joe Leonard (Hicksville, N.Y.), junior Sal Geneva (Hicksville, N.Y.) and Clark all had two tallies each. Engelhardt added two assists, while Leonard dished out three. In the cage, senior John Grebe (Farmingville, N.Y.) stopped 19 shots.

Head Coach Eric Petrullo and the Lions return to action on Saturday, Apr. 19 when they host ECC-foe Mercy College for Senior Day. The opening faceoff is set for 3 p.m.
