Engelhardt's 5 Goals Propel No. 13 Men's Lacrosse to 12-6 Win Over No. 14 St. Michael's

Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Mar. 8, 2014) – The No. 13 Molloy College men's lacrosse squad bettered its record to 2-1 on Saturday as the Lions doubled up No. 14 St. Michael's College, 12-6 at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex. Junior Tom Engelhardt (Bethpage, N.Y.) led the way with five goals and one assist, while junior Joe Leonard (Hicksville, N.Y.) and sophomore Peter Clark (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) notched a hat trick each. With the loss, the Purple Knights slipped to 0-2 on the year.
 
St. Michael's held the advantage in the opening quarter, scoring four goals to Molloy's two. The Lions turned the tables around, however, in the second quarter, as the hosts found the back of the netting five times – Engelhardt had two of those. Molloy headed into the intermission leading, 6-5.
 
From the 9:07 mark in the third quarter through the 2-minute mark of the fourth, Molloy went on a 6-1 run, cruising to a 12-6 victory.
 
For Molloy, Leonard also dished out two assists, while Clark had one. Freshman Connor Slane (North Babylon, N.Y.) was the other goal-scorer for the Lions. Senior Andrew Leo (Hicksville, N.Y.) won seven of the 16 face-offs he took, while Leonard and junior Tom Turner (East Rockaway, N.Y.) led the team with five ground balls each. In the cage, senior goalie John Grebe (Farmingville, N.Y.) had eight saves and three caused turnovers.
 
For St. Michael's, Tim McDonald recorded a hat trick, while Tom Fitzgerald, Evan Antolino and Cooper Quenneville had a goal each.
 
Head Coach Eric Petrullo and the Lions return to the field on Tuesday, March 11 when they venture to American International College in Springfield, Mass. to take on the Yellowjackets.  Game time is set for 5 p.m. This is a re-scheduled game from Monday, February 17.
