Baseball Shutout by No. 19 Lynn, 4-0

Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. (Mar. 8, 2014) – On Saturday, the Molloy College baseball team continued its spring training trip down in Boca Raton, Fla., as the Lions took on No. 19 Lynn University. Molloy was shutout on the afternoon, 4-0, to fall to 2-4 on the season, while Lynn improved to 17-4 on the season.

The three middle innings – the fourth, fifth and sixth – accounted for Lynn's offensive output. A pair of homers and a sacrifice fly resulted in the four runs, which would be all Lynn needed for the win. Junior starter Alex Brosnan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) pitched for the Lions, hurling five innings, giving up three runs (two earned). In relief, freshman Bobby Kelly (Mineola, N.Y.) gave up the fourth run, while sophomore Matt Castaneda (East Meadow, N.Y.) threw up a scoreless frame.

Starter Travis Connelly pitched a complete-game shutout for Lynn.

Sophomore shortstop Deilyn Guzman (East Hampton, N.Y.), who moved into the leadoff spot this game, had two hits, while sophomore third baseman Nicholas Gonchar (Staten Island, N.Y.) did as well.

Head Coach Joe Fucarino and the Lions return to action tomorrow when they continue their play in the Sunshine State when they take on Southern Connecticut State University at 10 a.m.  LiveStats will be available at MolloyLions.com.
