No. 13 Men's Lacrosse Takes Down Southern New Hampshire, 14-7

Box Score UNIONDALE, N.Y. (Mar. 4, 2014) - Although frozen field conditions at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex forced the Molloy College men's lacrosse team to play its 2014 home opener versus Southern New Hampshire University at the Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, N.Y., the Lions didn't mind, going out and doubling up the Penmen, 14-7 on Tuesday night. With the win, the Lions are now 1-1 overall, while the Penmen dropped to 0-1 on the young season.

More than half of SNHU's goals came within the opening 11 minutes of the game. Down 4-0 with 2:56 left in the first quarter, Molloy scored two goals off the sticks of junior attackman Joe Leonard (Hicksville, N.Y.) and sophomore attacker Kevin Teresky (South Huntington, N.Y.). The Lions were able to outscore the Penmen in the second stanza, 3-1, to knot the game at 5-5 prior to the intermission. Leonard added another two goals, while sophomore midfielder Austin Valenti (Baldwin, N.Y.) scored his first of the season.

The third quarter was where Molloy's offense came out firing on all cylinders. The Lions scored seven goals, while the Penmen notched just two tallies. Up 12-7 in the fourth quarter, the Lions' Teresky and Valenti added a goal each for good measure, locking down their team's first win of the 2014 campaign.

For Molloy, Leonard finished with five goals and one assist, while Valenti and Teresky had a hat trick apiece. Freshman Connor Slane (North Babylon, N.Y.) netted his fourth goal of the season, while junior midfielders Tom Turner (East Rockaway, N.Y.) and Sal Geneva (Hicksville, N.Y.) also found the back of the netting. Junior attack Tom Engelhardt (Bethpage, N.Y.) was responsible for a pair of assists. In the cage, junior Dan McElhinney (Franklin Square, N.Y.) recorded the win as he stopped four shots in 28+ minutes, while senior John Grebe (Farmingville, N.Y.) made three saves in 31+ minutes.

For SNHU, Jeremy Buckley had three goals, while Rob Murray had two markers and an assist. Between the pipes, Morgan Weireter made a whopping 21 saves.
