Samantha Arlotta (Garden City Park, N.Y.) and four tallies from freshman
Taylor Corcoran (Holbrook, N.Y.) helped the Molloy College women's lacrosse team defeat East Coast Conference-opponent the University of Bridgeport on Saturday afternoon, 15-8 in Bridgeport, Conn. at Knights Field. With the triumph, the Lions improved to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in the ECC, while the Purple Knights dropped to 1-9 on the year and 0-4 in league play.
Molloy scored the first four goals of the game over the opening 10 minutes. After seeing her team's deficit cut in half in the ensuing two minutes, Arlotta scored back-to-back goals between the 9:47 and 6:46 marks to put the Lions up, 6-2. Both markers were assisted by senior
Candice Noakes (Levittown, N.Y.). Later on in the stanza, another Arlotta goal, followed by Noakes finding the back of the cage, increased Molloy's advantage to 9-4 by the time halftime rolled around.
A four-goal deficit would be the closest Bridgeport was able to bring the score to in the second half. On a pair of occasions in the second period, the Purple Knights trailed by four, but Molloy was always able to find an insurance goal to up its lead to five or more.
For Molloy, Arlotta and Corcoran accounted for nine of the team's 15 goals. Freshman
Alexa Watson (North Massapequa, N.Y.) and sophomore
Ryan Meyer (East Meadow, N.Y.) had one tally apiece, while Noakes and senior
Jessica Teves (Merrick, N.Y.) scored twice each. In the cage, sophomore
Caroline Winters (Baldwin, N.Y.) and junior
Laura Vetter (Great River, N.Y.) split the game racking up a combined nine saves.
