Box Score UNIONDALE, N.Y. (Mar. 28, 2014) - The Molloy College baseball team opened up its four-game weekend series with St. Thomas Aquinas College on Friday afternoon with a 4-1 victory at Mitchel Field in Uniondale, N.Y. With the win, the Lions improved to 6-9 overall and 2-3 in the conference, while the Spartans slipped to 11-6 on the year and 4-1 in league play.
Molloy senior starting hurler
Max Schonfeld (East Meadow, N.Y.) was absolutely terrific today. The pitcher fired 8.2 innings of one-run ball, scattering nine hits. He struck out six batters. Fellow East Meadow product and sophomore reliever
Matt Castaneda came in for the final out with the bases loaded to earn his third save of the season.
On the offensive end, the Lions plated three runs in the third inning. Freshman
Ronald Bauer (Hicksville, N.Y.) had an RBI single, while rookie
Kevin Podell (Wantagh, N.Y.) and junior
John Galanoudis (Farmingdale, N.Y.) followed that up with back-to-back RBI doubles. The fourth run came in the bottom of the sixth frame when junior
Kyle Van Duyne (Sayville, N.Y.) drove in J. Galanoudis with a sacrifice fly.
The only Spartans' run came in the eighth inning off an RBI groundout by Rich Baerga.
