Box Score BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. (Mar. 21, 2014) - On Friday afternoon, the Molloy College baseball squad headed out to Brookhaven, Long Island to open up the East Coast Conference-portion of its campaign against the Golden Lions of Dowling College. A four-run third inning and strong Dowling pitching proved to be too much for the Lions' comeback attempts, as Dowling earned the victory, 5-1. With the win, the Golden Lions improved to 10-6 overall (1-0 ECC), while Molloy dropped to 4-7 on the year (0-1 ECC).
In the top of the first inning, Molloy junior left fielder
John Galanoudis (Farmingdale, N.Y.) drove in freshman second baseman
Kevin Podell (Wantagh, N.Y.) with a sacrifice fly to right field. Molloy quickly grabbed a 1-0 lead.
That lead wouldn't last long, however, as Dowling scored four times in the third frame, with a two-run double, an RBI triple and an RBI single. Tacking on an insurance run in the fourth inning off another RBI triple, Dowling held a 5-1 advantage, which would end up being the final result.
On the hill for the Lions, senior starter
Max Schonfeld (East Meadow, N.Y.) hurled seven innings, giving up all five runs. He struck out three. Senior pitcher
Anthony Eichhorn (Sayville, N.Y.) threw a scoreless inning of relief with one punchout.
On the mound for Dowling, Tyler Badamo pitched a complete-game, three-hitter. That run allowed in the first was unearned. He struck out 12 batters.
