No. 14 Men's Lacrosse Drops Non-Conference Tilt with Saint Anselm, 13-11

Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. (Mar. 19, 2014) - The No. 14 Molloy College men's lacrosse team received solid offensive output from a trio of players on Wednesday afternoon -- junior attack Joe Leonard (Hicksville, N.Y.), who scored four goals, and junior attacker Tom Engelhardt (Bethpage, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Peter Clark (Rockville Centre, N.Y.), who netted two tallies each. However, it wasn't enough as the Lions fell to Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H., 13-11. With the victory, the Hawks improved to 1-3 overall. Following the loss, the Lions slipped to 3-3 on the season.

After the opening quarter, Molloy trailed 4-1. Clark had the lone Lions' goal in the first quarter. Then in the second stanza, the two squads scored four markers each. Engelhardt started it off at the 14:06 mark, which was followed by a man-up goal from Leonard at the 13:30 interval. Freshman midfielder Jon Camposa (Syosset, N.Y.) eventually scored at the 7:59 mark before halftime. The Hawks then went on a 4-1 run to close out the first half, bringing an 8-5 lead into the intermission.

Following halftime, Molloy scored twice in the first three minutes to cut its deficit to 8-7. Junior midfielder Tom Turner (East Rockaway, N.Y.) and Leonard found the back of the netting on those goals. Saint Anselm didn't allow Molloy to stay that close for very long as a minute later, the Hawks started a 4-0 burst that extended into the beginning of the fourth quarter. With 14:14 left in the game, the hosts led, 12-7.

Molloy didn't back down, however, as three Lions recorded goals to bring the score closer (12-10). Time unfortunately ran out for the Lions and another goal from the Hawks with 22 seconds left cushioned their lead. Leonard netted his fourth and final tally of the game with five seconds left, changing the score to 13-11 in favor of Saint Anselm.

In the cage for Molloy, senior John Grebe (Farmingville, N.Y.) made 15 saves in the loss. For Saint Anselm, James O'Neill stopped 11 shots. On the offensive end of the field for the Hawks, Ryan Mee scored five times, while Andy Budz and Jake Mallinson combined for seven tallies.

Head Coach Eric Petrullo and the No. 14 Lions return to action on Saturday, March 22 when they host East Coast Conference-foe LIU Post, which is ranked fifth in the country according to the latest USILA Coaches Poll.
