Box Score CLERMONT, Fla. (Mar. 18, 2014) - On Tuesday afternoon, the Molloy College softball team jumped out to an early, first-inning 1-0 lead against Kutztown University after sophomore pitcher
Tracey Balinskas (Edison, N.J.) launched a solo shot over the fence. However, the Lions weren't able to hold onto that lead or bring home any insurance runs and fell in their 2014 Clermont, Fla. finale, 3-1. With the win, the Golden Bears improved to 4-11 overall, while the Lions dropped to 1-5 on the season.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Kutztown's Morgan Booth hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Marissa Linquist to tie the game at 1-1. One inning later, the Golden Bears found their go-ahead runs after Marka Ballard homered to center field, bringing in Colleen Smith. That 3-1 lead was all Kutztown ended up needing as it locked down the top of the seventh enroute to victory.
On the pitching front, Balinskas threw all six innings, surrendering the three runs. She gave up five hits and struck out two.
For Kutztown, Dominique Ficara pitched a complete-game, giving up the one run on two hits. She whiffed one batter.
