Box Score 2 Clermont, Fla. (March 15, 2014) - The three-time defending East Coast Conference champion Molloy College softball team split a doubleheader against Stonehill College on Saturday at Hancock Park in Clermont, Fla. Sophomore pitcher
Tracey Balinskas (Edison, N.J.) earned the 5-4 win in Game One, while sophomore
Samantha Sauer (Plainview, N.Y.) took a 7-6 loss in Game Two. Freshman
Chelsea Hawks (Wading River, N.Y.) posted her first career start in the second game.
In Game One, the Lions got a complete-game effort out of Balinskas. She allowed five hits and four earned runs while striking out three Stonehill batters.
Molloy trailed 4-2 after three innings when the bats came alive. The Lions would score three runs in the top of the fifth, kicked off by senior
Nicolette Sinagra (Brooklyn, N.Y.) plating two runners with a double to tie the score, 4-4. Junior
Brenda Lee (Corona, Calif.) had the eventual game winning single that would score Sinagra.
In Game Two, Molloy would cough up a 6-3 lead when the Skyhawks scored four runs in the top of the seventh. Sauer started the inning, but could only get two outs. Hawks, who pitched the first six innings, came back to get the final out, but relinquished the go-ahead run in the process.
In the loss, the Lions did get the first home run of the year from Sophomore
Milan Botte (San Diego, Calif.), a three-run shot in the bottom of the first.
