Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (March 12, 2014) – The No. 9 Dowling offense was too much for the Molloy College women's lacrosse team Wednesday night, as the Lions fell to their East Coast Conference foes, 18-5 at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex. With the loss, Molloy dropped to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the ECC. Dowling improved to 4-0 on the season and 3-0 in the league.
Dowling, the early front-runner in conference play, started the game strong, scoring two goals in the first two minutes. The offensive battering continued over the next 12 minutes, giving Dowling a 6-0 advantage at the 16:28 mark.
Sophomore attacker Ryan Meyer (East Meadow, N.Y.) ended Molloy's scoring drought with a goal midway through the half. Sophomore midfielder Katie O'Brien (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) and senior attacker Jessica Teves (Merrick, N.Y.) followed with one goal each, cutting Dowling's lead to three. The Lions ended the half down, 7-3.
But there was little Molloy could do on the defensive end to stop Dowling's scorers. Less than halfway into the second half, Dowling had managed a 13-3 double-digit lead. O'Brien and Teves each netted another goal for Molloy in the second stanza, but Dowling nearly tripled the Lions shots on goal, leading to an 18-5 victory.
O'Brien and Teves led Molloy with a pair of goals each. Junior goalie Laura Vetter (Great River, N.Y.) had seven saves in net for the Lions.
Jackie Andersen and Katie Meinecke each scored five goals for Dowling, with Anderson adding four assists.
