Women’s Basketball Bested by Roberts Wesleyan, 68-52

Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Feb. 8, 2014) – The Molloy College women's basketball team dropped its seventh East Coast Conference game Saturday afternoon, falling to Roberts Wesleyan College, 68-52 at the Voller Athletic Center. The loss put the Lions at 10-11 overall and 7-7 in the league. Roberts Wesleyan improved to 11-10 on the season, and 7-8 in ECC play.
 
Molloy was plagued by cold shooting early in the first half, going scoreless in the first two minutes of the game. Capitalizing on the situation, the Redhawks broke out to an early five-point lead. Sophomore guard Alex Hampton (Baldwin, N.Y.) put the Lions on the board with two made free throws at the 17:48 mark. A minute later, sophomore guard Alexia O'Connor (Centerport, N.Y.) scored Molloy's first field goal, tying the game.
 
The Lions went ahead by seven points after a 7-0 run, but Roberts Wesleyan stormed back, going up by as much as eight points at the 6:49 mark. The Redhawks held on to the lead for the remainder of the half and were up 33-30 at the intermission.
 
Roberts Wesleyan continued to dominate in the second half, scoring the first seven points and gaining their first double-digit lead of the game. Chelsea Sanders contributed 13 points for the Redhawks in the second stanza, shooting 4--for-7 from field-goal range and 5-for-7 from the foul line.
 
The Lions were only able to manage 31 percent shooting in the half, and were outrebounded by the Redhawks, 24-13. A made free throw by Sanders at the 6:39 mark gave Roberts Wesleyan a 22-point lead, cementing the win. The Redhawks took the game, 68-52.
 
O'Connor finished the game with 17 points, six rebounds, and two assists for Molloy. Junior guard/forward Nicole Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y.) added 10 points, three boards, and two steals.
 
Sanders scored a game-high 23 points for Roberts Wesleyan. Marissa Sell earned a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds. She also had three assists.
