Box Score AMHERST, N.Y. (Feb. 7, 2014) - The Molloy College women's basketball team fell to East Coast Conference-opponent Daemen College on Friday evening, 80-59 in Amherst, N.Y. The loss drops the Lions to 10-10 overall and 7-6 in the league. With the victory, the Wildcats improved to 7-15 on the season and 4-12 in the ECC.
Although the score might not reflect it, the first period was not played with one team holding a large lead. With 5:39 left before halftime, Daemen's Leah McDonell converted on a free throw to give the Wildcats a 23-22 advantage. Daemen proceeded to record a 13-2 run to close out the period, up by 12 points (36-24). Despite Molloy shooting 25.0% from the floor, the Lions were able to keep it close until the the final five minutes of the half. On the contrary, Daemen notched a shooting percentage of 42.9.
In the second half, the Lions couldn't cut their deficit down past 10 points, as the Wildcats were able to continue to expand their lead. In the period, Daemen continued its stellar shooting (43.8% from field goal range).
For Molloy, junior
Megan Lonergan (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while sophomore
Kimani Jackson (Dix Hills, N.Y.) netted 11 points. Senior
Kelly Guerriero (Floral Park, N.Y.) added 10 points. Junior
Nicole Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y.) recorded 10 rebounds. Sophomore
Alex Hampton (Baldwin, N.Y.) had nine assists -- falling two short of tying the program's record, which she set versus Mercy College on 2/20/13.
For Daemen, Raeann Stilwell scored a game-high 22 points, while Lindsay Stoddard recorded 13 points and 14 boards. Three others were in double-digit scoring: Rachel Pawlak with 12 points, Natalie Galus (10) and Taylor Heinold (10).
