Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Dec. 18, 2014) - The Molloy College women's basketball team snapped a three-game skid in dominating fashion, defeating Mercy College on Wednesday evening, 84-56. The win brings the Lions to .500 at 4-4 overall and captures their first East Coast Conference win (1-3). The loss dropped the Mavericks to 7-3 and 1-2 in ECC play.
The game was a blowout from the start when the Lions jumped out to a 22-point lead at the 10:49 mark in the first half. The Mavericks were held in single digits until the 8:03 mark in the opening stanza.
In the first half, the Lions led by as many as 27 coming at the 1:43 interval. The Lions went into halftime with a 46-23 lead over the Mavericks after shooting an incredible 42.5% from the floor. On the other side of the court, the Mavericks struggled from the field only shooting 31.3% and 16.7% from three-point range.
Junior guard
Alexia O'Connor (Centerport, N.Y.) paced the Lions in the first half with 11 points (4-9 from the field) and shot 3-7 from downtown. O'Connor added four steals to lead the Lions in the first period.
Following the intermission, the Lions survived a few Mavericks runs, only allowing Mercy to bring the lead down to as close as 14 points. Molloy then worked to extend its advantage, ultimately reaching a 29-point lead, which was the highwater mark at 2:02 remaining.
For the game, four Lions finished in double figures. Junior forward
Ally Leftridge (Melville, N.Y.) paced the Lions with 15 points on 6-12 shooting. She also added five rebounds. Sophomore guard
Aliyah McDonald (Hempstead, N.Y.) finished with 12 points (3-5 shooting), while O'Connor scored 11 points ( 4-10 shooting). O'Connor had five steals to lead the Lions for the game. Off the bench, junior guard/forward
Kimani Jackson (Dix Hills, N.Y.) contributed 13 points on 6-8 shooting. Senior guard/forward
Nicole Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y.) grabbed 10 rebounds.

Kate Lynch and the Lions look to finish the 2014 calendar-year off strong when they travel to Florida to take part in the Terrace Hotel Classic at Florida Southern College. The Lions will play host-Florida Southern, as well as the University of Tampa.
