Women's Basketball Clipped by Roberts Wesleyan in Overtime, 76-70

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Dec. 13, 2014) - On Saturday afternoon, the Molloy College women's basketball team lost a close contest to East Coast Conference-opponent Roberts Wesleyan College in overtime, 76-70. With the loss the Lions fall to 3-4 overall (0-3 in ECC play), while the Redhawks improves to 5-2 on the campaign and 1-1 in conference action. 

The game was a tail of two halves -- in the first half, the Redhawks stormed out to a 37-25 advantage. However, in the second half, the Lions roared all the way back to tie it at 64-64 with 3.2 seconds left on a made free throw from senior guard/forward Nicole Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y.). In the previous 52 seconds, Molloy was able to give Arnone the chance to tie the score when senior center Megan Lonergan (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) put in back-to-back layups. 

Unfortunatelty, the Lions went on to lose in overtime to the Redhawks, 76-70. Converted free throws in the final minutes of the extra period helped seal the win for Roberts Wesleyan. 


Overall for the Lions, junior forward Ally Leftridge (Melville, N.Y.) netted 15 points (6-17), while Arnone paced the club with 16 points -- 12 of which came in the second stanza. The Staten Island product was 7-12 from the field and grabbed six rebounds. On the boards, Lonergan contributed 10 rebounds and 11 points. 

The Redhawks were led by freshman guard Lucy Covely's 20 points on 6-8 from the field and a perfect 5-5 from the charity stripe.
