Women's Soccer Remains in Playoff Hunt with Win Over St. Thomas Aquinas

Box Score SPARKILL, N.Y. (Oct. 25, 2014) - On Saturday, the Molloy College women's soccer team earned a 1-0 East Coast Conference-win over St. Thomas Aquinas College thanks to a 29th-minute goal by freshman midfielder Sam Bernieri (Massapequa, N.Y.). It was the first of her collegiate career and was assisted by sophomore Gabrielle Batista (Hicksville, N.Y.). With the win, the Lions are currently 5-7-1 overall and 5-3 in the league, which is good for the fourth and final playoff spot. Following the loss, the Spartans fell to 6-6-2 (2-5-1 ECC).

Rookie Paige Salmon (West Hempstead, N.Y.) and Nicole DellaPorta (West Babylon, N.Y.) had identical lines in goal today for the Lions -- 45 minutes played and one save.

The Lions outshot the Spartans, 9-6, while doubling them up in corner kicks (6-3).

Head Coach Danny Longo and the Lions will wrap up their 2014 regular season with a game at the University of Bridgeport on November 1. The match will begin at 12 p.m.
