Women's Soccer Edges Roberts Wesleyan, 3-1

Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Oct. 17, 2014) - With the help of three different goal scorers, the Molloy College women's soccer team defeated East Coast Conference-opponent Roberts Wesleyan College on Friday afternoon, 3-1. With the win, the Lions are now 3-7-1 overall and 3-3 in the league, while the Redhawks slipped to 7-7 (2-4 ECC) following the loss.

Sophomore forward Danielle Valente (South Setauket, N.Y.) kicked off the scoring in the fifth minute of the game when she netted her third goal of the season. The tally was assisted by sophomore back Courtney Noakes (Levittown, N.Y.).

Roberts Wesleyan found the equalizer in the 33rd minute after Bella Mitrevski scored via a penalty kick. Just seven minutes later, Molloy junior midfielder Alicia Mercurio (Williston Park, N.Y.) scored off a Sam Bernieri (Massapequa, N.Y.) cross. Mercurio's marker was her second of the season.

Up 2-1 in the match, Molloy senior Allison Sloper (Williston Park, N.Y.) earned her first goal of the 2014 campaign when she found the back of the netting in the 54th minute. After a defensive lapse by the Redhawks, Sloper found herself one-on-one with Roberts Wesleyan goalkeeper Marissa Sell, resulting in scoring from five yards out.

Senior Nicole DellaPorta (West Babylon, N.Y.) made four saves in net during the first 45 minutes, while rookie netminder Paige Salmon (West Hempstead, N.Y.) didn't face any shots.

Head Coach Danny Longo and the Lions return to the field on Sunday when they host Daemen College at 11 a.m.  Prior to the match, the Lions will honor its six seniors: Nicole DellaPorta, Chelsea Bauer, Alexa De La Torre, Allison Sloper, Jacqui Valentine and Danielle Pigott.
