Women's Basketball Drops ECC Game to Queens, 69-57

Box Score FLUSHING, N.Y. (Jan. 28, 2014) – On Tuesday night, the Molloy College women's basketball team dropped its fourth-straight East Coast Conference game, losing to Queens College, 69-57 at Fitzgerald Gymnasium. With the win, the Knights improved to 12-5 on the season (8-3 ECC), while the Lions slipped to 8-9 (5-5 ECC).

Molloy controlled most of the first stanza, trailing the Knights only once and going up by as much as seven several times throughout the half. Junior guard/forward Nicole Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y.) contributed eight of her 16 points for the Lions, as well as six rebounds. Molloy led 33-28 going into halftime.

The Knights, tied with New York Institute for Technology for third place in the ECC standings, chipped away at the Molloy lead for much of the second half. After six lead changes, Queens went ahead for good on a made free throw by forward/center Tara Fearon with 4:10 left to play.

The Knights took advantage of Molloy's poor shooting in the second half, outscoring the Lions by 17. Three players — Madison Rowland, MacKenzie Rowland, and Kristen Korzevinski — each scored in double digits for Queens College, combining for 36 of the Knights' 41 second stanza points. The Knights also outrebounded Molloy on the offensive boards 11-2, helping Queens to a 69-57 win.

Sophomore guard Alexia O'Connor (Centerport, N.Y.) scored 12 points for Molloy, while junior forward Megan Lonergan (Rockville Centre, N.Y.), who is a Queens College-transfer, added 11 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocks.

Madison Rowland scored a game-high 20 points for Queens, while MacKenzie Rowland contributed 16 points and 13 rebounds.
