Philadelphia U. Defeats Women's Tennis, 9-0

Box Score PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Sept. 7, 2013) - On Saturday, the Molloy College women's tennis team battled Philadelphia University in its second match of the 2013-14 season. The Lions slipped up against the Rams, 9-0, to drop to 0-2 overall. Philadelphia improved to 2-0 on the year.

In first singles, Molloy's rookie Stephanie Rances (Jamaica, N.Y.) lost to Isabella Espinosa, 6-3, 6-2. Following them in second singles, the Ram's Naia Bengoa beat senior Nikki Gloria (Queens Village, N.Y.), 6-4, 6-1. Emily Chung continued the winning trend for the Rams as she defeated senior Tatiana Rajaona (Paris, France), 6-1, 6-3.

In fourth singles, Molloy senior Gabrielle DiCroce (East Meadow, N.Y.) battled hard, but ultimately fell to Philadelphia's Olivia Amato, 7-5, 6-2. In fifth singles, Sayre Limburg bested Molloy senior Megan Lawless (Baldwin, N.Y.), 6-2, 6-0. In the final singles, Philadelphia's Magill Kurts beats junior Ryan Quick (Long Beach, N.Y.), 6-0, 6-0.

In the opening doubles, Chung and Espinosa teamed up to take down the Molloy duo of Gloria and Rajaona, 8-3. In second doubles, Amato and Bengoa beat the Lion's DiCroce and Rances by the same score. In the final doubles, Limburg and Anna Slomowitz of Philadelphia bested Lawless and freshman Emily Rosen (Little Neck, N.Y.), 8-1.

Head Coach Victor Caraballo and the Lions return to action tomorrow when they take on the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, Pa. The opening serve is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
