RESULTS - 2013 ITA Championships, Women's Draws
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Sept. 22, 2013) - On Saturday, the Molloy College women's tennis team competed in Day One of the ITA Championships at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, Pa. Two Lions won their matches on Saturday to advance to Day Two's action on Sunday.
Freshman
Stephanie Rances (Jamaica, N.Y.) won first singles against Elizabeth Worth of Southern New Hampshire University, 8-1. Next up, she faced Roberts Wesleyan College's Fatima Quattara and won, 8-0. The victory over Quattara placed Rances in the Sweet Sixteen. The Women's "B" Singles USTA/ITA Regional Championships began with a pool of 64 competitors -- an extraordinary accomplishment for Rances. However, the Queens native's stellar run ended when she lost to Ana Paula Simoes of American International College, 9-7.
In second doubles, Rances and senior
Gabrielle DiCroce (East Meadow, N.Y.) defeated Magill Kurts and Anna Slomowitz of Philadelphia University, 8-1. Rances and DiCroce then went on to beat Victoria Quang and Melissa White of the University of the Sciences, 8-2. The Molloy duo subsequently defeated Axe Owens and Morgan Oechsle of host-Chestnut Hill College, 9-7, to advance to the Final Four round (out of a pool that started with 32 duos). Rances/DiCroce's magical run ended when they fell to Kaitlyn Martin and Kirsti Toegemann of Stonehill College, 8-1.

Ryan Quick (Long Beach, N.Y.) and senior
Megan Lawless (Baldwin, N.Y.) fell in doubles, 8-1, to Taylor King and Gaby Adia of Adelphi University. Seniors
Nikki Gloria (Queens Village, N.Y.) and
Tatiana Rajaona (Paris, France) lost to Kaitlyn Martin and Kirsti Toegemann of Stonehill College, 8-2.
In other singles play, Quick dropped her match to Stonehill's Martin, 8-1. DiCroce was defeated by BU's Stowe, 8-4. Lawless lost to BU's Amato, 8-0. Gloria fell to Anastasia Melnikova of Goldey-Beacom College, 8-1. In her singles match, Rajaona was downed by Oechsle of Chestnut Hill, 8-4.
