Women's Soccer Loses to Holy Family in Home Opener, 1-0

Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Sept. 17, 2013) - The Molloy College women's soccer team waited half the month of September to have its first home game of 2013, although the Lions wished the results were a bit different. Molloy fell to Holy Family University, 1-0, at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. In a tough decision, the Lions gave up the game's only goal to the Tigers in the 87th minute of regulation.

With the win, Holy Family improved to 3-2 overall. Following the loss, the Lions slipped to 0-4 on the season.

Throughout this contest, both teams were inches away from scoring and missed out on great scoring opportunities as there were a total of 12 shots on goal.

In the 87th minute, the Tigers' Kimber Kisselback crossed the ball to the top of the box where Ashley Shackleford was waiting. Shackleford hit it on the fly with her right foot beating Molloy junior goalkeeper Nicole DellaPorta (West Babylon, N.Y.) on the far post.

On the evening, DellaPorta made four saves, while her counterpart from Holy Family, Sienna Smith, stopped seven shots.

Head Coach Danny Longo and the Lions return to the field on Friday when they travel 386 miles to Rochester, N.Y. to take on East Coast Conference-rival Roberts Wesleyan College. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
