BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 14, 2013) - On Saturday, the Molloy College men's and women's cross country squads competed at the LIU Post Invitational in Brookville, N.Y. On the men's side, the Lions placed third out of 12 teams in the 8,000-meter run, while the women's squad placed 12th out of 12 teams in the 5,000-meter race.
In the men's event, the Lions finished behind only winner-LIU Post and the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Sophomore
Conor Gallagher (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) and senior
Luke Merz (Babylon, N.Y.) placed 15th and 18th overall, respectively. Gallagher had a time of 26:28.94, while Merz finished in 26:31.66. Sophomore
Mike Darnell (Wantagh, N.Y.) finished 31st overall with a timing of 27:10.00, while freshman
Shane Martensen (East Islip, N.Y.) crossed the line at 27:54.45, which was good for 48th overall. Gallagher and Merz finished in eighth and ninth, respectively, amongst Division II and III competition.
On the women's side, Molloy senior
Caitlin Breen (Williston Park, N.Y.) recorded a time of 19:11.38 to finish in 15th place overall. Elsewhere on the female squad, junior
Brenna Darby (Blue Point, N.Y.) placed 58th overall with a mark of 22:23.91. In the Division II and III grouping, Breen placed eighth.

Keely Coco and Danny Naud and the Lions return to action on Saturday, Sept. 21 when they compete in the Osprey Open at Stockton College in Galloway, N.J.
