Women's Soccer Nipped by Southern Connecticut State, 2-1

Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Sept. 11, 2013) - On Wednesday afternoon, the Molloy College women's soccer squad surrendered two goals in the first half to Southern Connecticut State University and were only able to take one of those back as the Lions fell in New Haven, Conn. to the Owls, 2-1. Molloy dropped to 0-3 overall, while Southern Connecticut improved to 1-2 on the season.

Suzanne Pires had both goals for the Owls as she scored in the 32nd and 43rd minutes of the first stanza. Molloy redshirt-junior Allison Sloper (Williston Park, N.Y.) scored her tally, which came in the 52nd minute of play, off a free kick from about four yards out from the goal.

Between the pipes for the Lions, junior goalkeeper Nicole DellaPorta (West Babylon, N.Y.) stopped five shots, while the Owls' netminder Rachel Hafer had one save.

Head Coach Danny Longo and the Lions return to the field on September 17 when they host Holy Family University in their 2013 home opener. The game, which will be at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex, gets underway at 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcasted live via www.MolloyLions.com.
