(Dec. 14, 2013) - On Saturday, the Molloy College women's basketball team defeated East Coast Conference-rival Dowling College, 55-52 at Quealy Gymnasium in Rockville Centre, N.Y.  Junior guard/forward Nicole Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y.) grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds, while also adding in seven points to aid the Lions to an overall record improvement of 6-2 (3-0 ECC). With the loss, the Golden Lions slipped to 1-6 on the year and 1-2 in league play.

Molloy held a seven-point lead twice in the opening stanza, which was the Lions' highwater mark for the half. With 4:46 left and the Golden Lions behind 20-13, Dowling went on an 8-1 run to close out the first period. The Golden Lions and the Lions headed into the intermission with the score knotted at 21-all.

With 7:40 left in the second half, Molloy sophomore guard Alexia O'Connor (Centerport, N.Y.) nailed a three-pointer to tie the score yet again (38-38). Molloy then strung together a 15-0 spurt to grab a 51-38 advantage. Senior guard Kelly Guerriero (Floral Park, N.Y.) started off the run with a pair of three-balls, while junior Allison Smith (Blairstown, N.J.) also drained a bucket from downtown. With that 13-point deficit, Dowling's Christine Verrelle took it upon herself to claw her team back into the game as she nailed three treys in the span of two minutes down the stretch.

Down by six with 28 seconds remaining in regulation, Ashley Gyscek nailed a three-pointer to cut Dowling's deficit in half. A free throw later, the Golden Lions trailed 54-52. Molloy held on, however, for the win, 55-52.
