Box Score BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Dec. 11, 2013) - On Wednesday evening, the Molloy College women's basketball team defeated the University of Bridgeport at the Hubbell Gymnasium, 70-52 in East Coast Conference action. With the win, the Lions improved to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in league play, while the Purple Knights dropped to 2-5 on the season and 0-2 in the ECC.
Down 12-2 at the 12:48 mark of the first half, the Purple Knights popped off a 16-4 run to grab the lead. Jennifer Kucukkaya had eight of those 16 points. The score was tied on two more occasions before halftime arrived. At the intermission, Bridgeport had the advantage at 31-25.
Over the opening 11 minutes of the second stanza, the crowd was treated to five tie scores. That fifth tie would be the final instance in which the game was close as Molloy pulled away over the next eight minutes with an incredible 24-7 run.
For Molloy, junior
Nicole Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y.) recorded a team-high 17 points, while junior
Allison Smith (Blairstown, N.J.) scored 11. Arnone also had four assists, six rebounds and a steal, while Smith swatted away a pair of Bridgeport shots. Smith went 3-for-3 from downtown, while the Lions as a whole hit eight three-balls tonight.
For Bridgeport, Kucukkaya had a game-high 21 points, while Tiara Aziz scored 13. Kucukkaya and Jenna Hoffman had eight boards each, while Shannon Holt scored six points and blocked three shots.
