Box Score ORANGEBURG, N.Y. (Nov. 16, 2013) - In the Molloy College women's basketball team's second leg of the First Annual Regina Rivera Memorial Tournament held at Dominican College in Orangeburg, N.Y., the Lions dropped a 77-68 decision to Nyack College. With the win, the Warriors improved to 1-4 on the year, while the Lions slipped to 2-2 overall.
Nyack quickly jumped out to a 9-0 lead over the opening three minutes of the game. The Lions answered right back with seven consecutive points over the subsequent two minutes to pull to within a pair of points. Molloy took its first lead of the contest at the 7:04 mark when junior
Megan Lonergan (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) drove in a lay-up to put the Lions up, 23-21. From there, the guests received five straight points from sophomore
Alexia O'Connor (Centerport, N.Y.) off a trey and a jumper. Following a Nyack bucket, O'Connor struck again from downtown to give Molloy a 31-23 advantage with 3:28 remaining before halftime. A slew of free throws down the stretch changed the score to 33-31 in favor of the Lions as the buzzer sounded.
After the intermission, Molloy held a good position in the contest, keeping a grip on the lead over the first five minutes. The Lions led by six points with 14:45 remaining, before the Warriors reeled off six straight to tie it. From that point on, the Lions weren't able to regain the lead as Nyack distanced itself further and further away from Molloy. The Warriors closed out the game with a 5-0 run to secure a 77-68 victory.
For Molloy, O'Connor had 15 points to lead the team, while Lonergan scored 14, senior
Kelly Guerriero (Floral Park, N.Y.) added 12 and junior
Nicole Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y.) contributed 10. Arnone had a game-high six assists, while sharing the team-lead in rebounds (6) with O'Connor. The Lions shot just 34.4% from the floor today.
For Nyack, Audrey Matteson notched a game-high 30 points, while Jamie McKeither and Brandone Roberts added 12 and 10 points, respectively. Matteson also dished out four assists and recorded two steals.
