Women's Basketball Edges Felician, 69-67

Box Score BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Nov. 10, 2013) - On Sunday afternoon, the Molloy College women's basketball team moved to 2-0 on the young season with a 69-67 victory over Felician College at the Hubbell Gymnasium in Bridgeport, Conn.  With the loss, the Golden Falcons dropped to 0-2 overall.

With 13:25 remaining in the first half, Molloy senior Kelly Guerriero (Floral Park, N.Y.) nailed a three-pointer to give the Lions a 10-5 advantage. Over the ensuing five minutes, the Golden Falcons would tie the score twice and eventually take an eight-point lead (20-12). With 4:09 left, the Golden Falcons saw their largest margin of score differential when they led, 31-18. Molloy rattled off seven straight points after that, bringing down its deficit to 31-25. Felician would score a few more times and give itself a 36-28 lead, heading into the locker room for halftime.

The Lions came out of the intermission white hot, as they recorded a 13-2 run over the first five minutes. Guerriero had five of those 13 points off a three-pointer and a jumper in the paint. As late as 4:58, the Golden Falcons led, 56-46. However, Molloy scored 13 points to Felician's two over the span of the next two minutes. Guerriero sunk a pair of buckets from downtown within that run.

With 2:28 remaining in regulation and the Lions ahead by one (59-58), junior Sabrina Padro (Bronx, N.Y.) scored the rest of the team's points for the game, recording 10. With this incredible scoring burst, the Lions locked down the 69-67 victory.

For Molloy, Guerriero scored 20 to lead the game, while Padro recorded 17. Junior Nicole Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y.) had nine points and 15 rebounds, while sophomore Kimani Jackson (Dix Hills, N.Y.) brought down 10 boards. Padro also led the team in steals (3) and assists (6). Behind the arc, Guerriero converted on six of her nine attempts.

For Felician, Ashley Morris scored 14 and Trina Plummer had 13, while Que Lyles recorded a double-double (12 points, 12 rebounds).

Head Coach Kate Lynch and the Lions return to action on Friday, Nov. 15 when they travel to Orangeburg, N.Y. and take on Dominican College. The opening tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.  Check back at www.MolloyLions.com for a link to LiveStats.
