ECC Championships: Men's Cross Country Finishes Second; Women Place Fourth

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 27, 2013) -
On Sunday, the Molloy College men's cross country team finished runner-up in the East Coast Conference Championships 8k to host school - LIU Post. Meanwhile, the women's team had a strong finish as the Lions placed fourth out of eight teams in the 5k.

On the men's side, sophomore Conor Gallagher (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) placed 13th out of 78 runners with a time of 26:26.42. Senior Luke Merz (Babylon, N.Y.) was six spots behind Gallagher, recording a mark of 26:44.19. Sophomore Mike Darnell (Wantagh, N.Y.) finished 23rd (26:56.59). Sophomore Eric Haslbauer (Levittown, N.Y.) came in at 27:29.26, which was good for 27th overall. Rounding out the top-half finishers for the Lions was freshman Shane Martensen (East Islip, N.Y.). He placed 35th with a time of 28:04.68.

Senior Caitlin Breen (Williston Park, N.Y.) placed tenth out of 84 in the women's race with a time of 18:51.60. Sophomore Sloane Russ (Smithtown, N.Y.) was 38th overall (20:46.10).

For their stellar performances at the ECC Championships, Breen was named to the women's All-Conference Second Team, while Gallagher was selected to the men's All-Conference Second Team.
