Women's Soccer Drops Non-League Battle to Philadelphia, 2-1

Box Score PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Oct. 17, 2013) - On Thursday afternoon, the Molloy College women's soccer squad ventured to Philadelphia, Pa. to take on Philadelphia University in non-conference play. Down 1-0 with 29 minutes left in the game, Molloy junior Allison Sloper (Williston Park, N.Y.), stationed in the box, found the equalizer, heading in a pass from freshman Melissa Comis (Massapequa, N.Y.). Sloper's fourth goal of the season eventually sent the game into overtime. The two teams finished the first overtime period with no goals scored, but the Rams were able to notch the game-winner in the 105th minute of the contest when Shannon Reardigan fired a shot into the right side of the net from 12 yards out. Philadelphia won, 2-1.

With the triumph, the Rams improved to 3-7-1 overall. Following the defeat, the Lions slipped to 2-11 on the year.

Philadelphia's first goal was scored by Angela Ferro in the 25th minute. It was assisted by Morgan Graus.

Between the pipes, Lions' junior goalkeeper Nicole DellaPorta (West Babylon, N.Y.) made five saves. On the other side of the field for the Rams, Courtney Shaw stopped two shots.

The Rams outshot the Lions, 17-8, while also holding the edge in corner kicks (4-0).

Head Coach Danny Longo and the Lions return to the field on Saturday, Oct. 19 when they travel to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. to play Mercy College beginning at 12 p.m.  The Mavericks (9-2, 4-1 ECC) are currently tied for second place in the conference standings with Roberts Wesleyan College.
