Women's Soccer Battles Post; Falls in Overtime, 4-3

Box Score WATERBURY, Conn. (Oct. 1, 2013) - On Tuesday afternoon, the Molloy College women's soccer squad was tripped up by Post University, falling in overtime, 4-3 in Waterbury, Conn. With the win, the Eagles improved to 4-4 overall, while the Lions slipped to 1-7 on the season with the defeat.

Early on in this game, in the 11th minute, Molloy senior Sami Saad (Valley Stream, N.Y.) scored on a header off a cross from redshirt-junior Allison Sloper (Williston Park, N.Y.). Lions took a 1-0 lead.

One and a half minutes later, Post evened the score when Tessa Dunster found the back of the netting, remarkably dribbling through four players. The Eagles would turn the score to 2-1 in their favor when Lexxi Carroll notched a tally three minutes later. Post scored again in the 17th minute of regulation when Valerie Moore shot one past the Molloy goalkeeper Nicole DellaPorta (West Babylon, N.Y.). Brianne Scott assisted on both Carroll's and Moore's markers.

In the second stanza, Saad recorded her second goal of the game in the 67th minute. She placed the ball in over the goalkeeper's head. In the 79th minute, junior Casey Naab (Floral Park, N.Y.) evened the score at 3-3 when she found the ball off a rebound and put it into the back of the netting. Naab's marker ultimately sent the game into overtime.

In the 98th minute of the game, Dunster was awarded a penalty kick after a foul in the box by the Lions. Dunster would make good on that conversion and seal the 4-3 win with for the Eagles.

In goal, DellaPorta made six saves, while Post netminder Grace McConnell also stopped six shots.

Head Coach Danny Longo and the Lions try to get back on the winning track on Saturday when they host ECC-foe the University of Bridgeport. The contest, which will be at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex, will get underway at 2:00 p.m.
