Box Score vs. East Stroudsburg - September 11,
2010
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Sept. 11, 2010) –
Down 4-0 with just over 32 minutes left in regulation, the Molloy
College men's soccer team rallied to trim the deficit to a
pair on Saturday afternoon, but the Lions were unable to make the
comeback true as they fell by a 6-3 decision to East Stroudsburg
University at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville
Centre, N.Y. Sophomore midfielder/forward Tyler De La Torre
(Valley Stream, N.Y.) recorded a game-best two goals for
the hosts in the effort.
During the first stanza, the Warriors (4-0) accounted for the
only scoring with two goals in a 24-second stint. Red-shirt senior
midfielder Danny Drago (Stroudsburg, Pa.) got
things started in the 20th-minute with a shot into the lower right
corner of the mesh off a long pass from fellow senior midfielder
Michael Kane (Stroudsburg, Pa.). As
aforementioned, East Stroudsburg did not take long to put its
second marker on the scoreboard. Senior forward Shastri
Spencer (Tunapuna, Trinidad & Tobago) streaked through
the box for a tally on the play.
ESU took that two-score lead into the break, but weren't
done as the second half commenced. Ten-plus minutes into the
stanza, the Warriors pulled off another two-goal strike in a very
short span. This time, junior forward Greg Schook
(Holbrook, N.Y.) scored on an unassisted effort with 56:15
elapsed, while the other score, which came off of the foot of
freshman midfielder Matthew Geidner (Fleetwood,
Pa.), was just over a minute later. But, the Lions (0-3)
didn't give up that easy as De La Torre cut it to 4-1 with
over 20 minutes left.
In the 74th-minute, a Warriors' handball in the box
awarded Molloy a penalty kick. Junior back/midfielder
Michael LoManto (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) stepped to
the line for the Lions, but his attempt was knocked away by ESU
senior goalkeeper Troy Hernandez (Elmont, N.Y.).
Junior forward John Alberda (Commack, N.Y.) rushed
in on the rebound, and had the put-back, which made it a 4-2
contest. East Stroudsburg answered right back though, and put the
game away for good on the second team-up tally by Geidner and
Spencer.
Hernandez and sophomore goalie Michael Hunter (Merrick,
N.Y.) stopped three saves each for their respective sides.
The Lions held a 4-2 margin in corner kicks, while the Warriors
owned a 14-11 advantage in shots. De La Torre attempted three shots
for the hosts. Alberda and junior midfielder Daniel Patino
(Valley Stream, N.Y.) had a pair of shots each. As for the
visitors, Drago totaled four shots. Spencer sported three shots.
Schook and Kane added two shots apiece.
Head Coach Danny Longo and his squad return to action this
