ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Feb. 26, 2016) - Lions fans, your Molloy College women's basketball team has made the East Coast Conference Tournament! The next questions are who will they play and when. With Roberts Wesleyan, UDC and Queens all tied at 14-5 in conference play, there is still a lot to be decided as to where the Lions will be going.
Women's Basketball - Tiebreaker Scenarios For Playoff Seeding and Playoff Berths1) If Molloy wins win Saturday, the Lions will stand at 11-9 and firmly clinch the No. 5 seed on account of the following tiebreaker:
a) Saint Thomas Aquianas and Molloy can finish with identical records at either 11-9 or 10-10. In this case, the first tiebreaker is head-to-head results. Since the teams split the season series, the next tiebreaker is how both teams did against the rest of the conference, beginning with No. 1 seed NYIT. Because Molloy went 1-1 versus the Bears this season while the Spartans were swept, Molloy gets the No. 5 seed and STAC is the sixth-seeded team.
b) Likewise, if STAC were to win on Saturday versus Dowling but Molloy falls to Roberts Wesleyan, the Spartans will be 11-9 and Molloy will have a 10-10 record. Thus, Saint Thomas Aquinas will be the fifth overall seed and the Lions will be the No. 6 seed in the ECC Tournament.
